Bluepha BioFAB is a microbial material innovation factory located in the Coastal Industrial Park of Binhai County, Yancheng City. Designed by XINGDESIGN Architects for Bluepha, the facility serves as a hub for biomanufacturing and material research.Bluepha pioneers in developing new bio-based and molecular materials that reshape the way people live, eat, dress, and heal. Its core product, Bluepha PHA—a biodegradable natural polymer—aims to replace conventional plastics and promote a sustainable, green future.

The office building’s rooftop features shallow ponds filled with temperature-controlled fermentation water. Architecture resembles a petri dish, which nurtures new biomaterials and bridges life and matter.

The exhibition hall, reception room, and conference room protrude above the water’s surface, offering a panoramic, infinite view of the water and sky; The submerged space, featuring offices, meeting rooms, and a multipurpose hall, offers spatial flatness and transparency, while its structural elements and rooms are scattered freely providing openness and excellent diffused lighting, making it a bright workspace for scientists and engineers.

The interior manifests a faith built through light and structure. Daylight cascades through the skylights, sanctifying the core of the space and elevating rationality into something sacred. Geometry and light weave a spiritual rhythm, while the honesty of materials reflects reverence for science and life. Between calm precision and human warmth, the space reveals a quiet strength—an enduring belief in progress and the future.

The pillars are combined with planting pools and printing cabinets, create a sculptural form with roof openings, so that the interplay of light and water ripples creates dynamic of shadows, reminding people of their noble mission beyond daily life and binding them together in the wilderness.

Light becomes the architecture itself — a living material that defines space, rhythm, and belief.

Dealing with the saline-alkali land, the site was elevated by 1.2 meters and filled with fertile soil, allowing trees to take root and grow rapidly. The building integrates a constant water circulation system sourced from the factory, while the elevated floor slab enhances environmental efficiency and spatial proportion. Experiments with new PHA materials were conducted here, and even the partition walls of the central conference room are filled with PHA granules, symbolizing the dialogue between architecture and biotechnology.

Amid the building’s vast and contemplative atmosphere, a linear courtyard connects spaces for reflection, recreation, and collaboration — including lounges, gyms, and MEP areas — inspiring a balanced rhythm between work and thought.

Bluepha BioFAB embodies a belief in renewal and creation, echoing its mission: “Paving the way for a new world of biotechnology creation.”
